Obituary of Rita Butters

BUTTERS - Rita (née Murray) died peacefully at the St Joseph’s Hospice in London Ontario on Friday, February 28, 2025 after a brief illness.  She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Ron Butters and her son Kevin Butters.  She will be greatly missed by her son Brian of St Thomas, daughter Marlene and Jim Slipp of Red Deer, Alberta (Bill & Brooke, Katherine & Donavon, Kelly & Maxwell, and Patricia), and daughter-in-law Faye Butters (late Kevin) of St Thomas. (Patrick & Lindsay, Christopher & Jen and Emma), as well as six great grandchildren.  Rita was predeceased by many members of the Murray and Butters families.  She will be sadly missed by her sisters Rose Costello (late Dan), Mary Stapleton (Bob), sisters-in-law Toady Butters (late Glenn), Rose Mary Murray (late Leon), brothers-in-law Gord Butters (Jackie) and Don Coyne (Joanne) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Rita was born on February 16, 1934 in Dublin, Ontario and was one of nine children.  Together with Ron, she enjoyed summers in Bracebridge and winters in Florida, spending time between the golf course and local bridge club.  Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne’s Parish, 20 Morrison Dr., St. Thomas on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.  Interment of ashes in St. Peter’s Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hospice of Elgin would be appreciated.
