Obituary of Tine Jacoba Van Houwelingen

VAN HOUWELINGEN - (nee Van Gelderen) After a long journey with Alzheimers, Tine Van Houwelingen in her 89th year went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday, April 29, 2021. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving children. Beloved wife of 54 years of John Van Houwelingen (2011) and loving mom of John (Wilma), Christine, Helen, Derek (Susanna), Pauline (John). Amazing Oma to Jesse (Lisa), Dustin (Jodi), Spencer (Kaitlin), Cayla (Devin), Nico, Derek, Anton and Izaak. Great Oma of Ava, Claire, Jordan, Logan, Charlotte, Paisley, Lincoln, Jaxon and Cecilia. Dear sister to Arie (predeceased), Nel, Stien, Jaap, Paulien and Henk of the Netherlands. Survived by sister in-laws Ans and Dineke and many nieces and nephews. Tine was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands on November 11, 1932, the daughter of the late Hendrik and Christina Van Gelderen. She immigrated to Canada in 1958 and settled in St. Thomas, Ontario. She was a long standing member of the St. Thomas First C.R.C. and then Talbot Street C.R.C. in London. She was a dedicated and compassionate volunteer in her church with Friendship Club, a club for adults with Special Needs. She was also on the Pastoral Care Team serving seniors in various capacities. Tine could often be found sitting in the sunshine reading a good book; listening to her favourite music. She had a passion and talent for woodworking and refinishing furniture. Tine loved everything family and being “gezellig”. Tine was a kind, caring, loving beautiful soul! Special thanks to moms many caregivers over the years especially PSW Anne Louis for the best care for over 10 years. Also, thanks to the VON Palliative Team for making moms last week comfortable. A private family funeral service will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St Thomas (519-631-0570) on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. For those unable to attend the funeral service, a livestream will be made available on Tine’s tribute page on the funeral home website.
