Obituary of Barend Bonvanie
BONVANIE - Barend was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the age of 77. “Death is swallowed up in victory” (1 Corinthians 15:54b). Beloved husband of Hennie Bonvanie (nee Haringa) of 45 years. Dear father and grandfather of Gilbert & Amanda Bonvanie, their children Nyanza & Octavious; Douglas & Miriam Bonvanie, their children Benjamin, Rebekkah, Hannah, Elizabeth & Reuben; Richard & Carolyn Bonvanie, their children Noah, Kade, Seth, Jobe & Eden; Elaine & Carlo Di Stefano, their children Claire, Clarke & June; and Timothy & Angie Bonvanie, their children Matthew & Justin.
He will be missed by sister Jennie and her husband Jim Van Der Toorn; brother-in-law Harry and his wife Lenie Kamstra; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father, mother and nephew Geoffrey Kamstra, sister Janny Kamstra, brothers Gerard Bonvanie and Henry Bonvanie.
Barend was long member of the CRC, The Junction church. He was employed at the Woodstock General Hospital as an X-ray technician for 42 years. A heartfelt “Thank You” to the doctors, nurses and staff at the London and St. Thomas hospitals and Dr. M Zajac, Dr Ken McGaffey, Dr. Lui and staffs.
Due to COVID-19 a private family funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). For those unable to attend, a livestream will be made available on Barend’s tribute page on the funeral home website. Interment in Elmdale Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the World Renew; Heart & Stroke Foundation; or St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital would be appreciated. Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
