Obituary of Kenneth Roy Nelson

NELSON- Kenneth Roy of St. Thomas, passed away at London Health Sciences Centre-Victoria Campus, with his family by his side, on Monday, January 24, 2022 at the age of 81. Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sadie; by his loving children Barry (Tina) Nelson and Dan Nelson (Evangeline McEown); by his grandchildren Jessica Pawley (Darren Nolan), Andrew Nelson (Danah Arsenault), Kurtis (Lauri) Nelson, and Sadie Nelson; by his eleven great grandchildren; his sister Beverly (late Robert) Cecol; brother-in-law Archie (Wendy) MacKinnon; and by his two nieces and one nephew. Predeceased by his parents Roy and Vivienne Nelson and his infant daughter Kathy. Ken was a firefighter in Kirkland Lake for 35 years before his retirement. Afterwards, he worked as a driver for Voyager in his spare time. Ken was a member of Central United Church in St. Thomas, a Mason and Past Grand Chapter Officer, and a member of the Northland Shrine Club Clown Unit and the Rameses Shriners Temple. He also enjoyed playing the role of Santa Claus for his grand and great grandchildren, and at many of the group homes in the area. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Sunday, January 30, 2022 from 7:00-9:00 pm. A memorial service to celebrate Ken’s life will be held in the chapel on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
