Dear libby mark Emma Charlotte June Paul Donna Ian and the Barrett family. Truly saddened to hear of Dougs passing. My deepest and heartfelt sympathies. Your love and presence as a family was in Dougs final years his heaven on earth. May your love faith and strong family support carry you all through this difficult time. Doug will be truly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him and loved him. As I was lighting the candle for Doug from my iPhone when I submitted the candle my phone spontaneously burst into music. The song was no ordinary love by Sade. It captured Doug in a moment he was a man who gave no ordinary love and was given in return no ordinary love.! His extraordinary love will live on through each and all of us who ever received one of his Big smiles or a loving embrace. Much love through the miles and as the sun shines upon me here today in Florida I am reminded of his warmth and I look up to the beautiful blue sky and I am grateful for every moment spent with Doug while on this earthly coil. Much love

To all the Barrett family.
We were all very sad to hear of Dougs passing. We have such great memories of spending time with Doug and everyone else on our visit to Canada and when he came over to England. We will always remember Doug as a lovely man with a great knowledge and sense of humour who could talk about anything and everything.He will be sadly missed by all of us.

My condolences to Libby, Mark, Charlotte and Emma and the Barrett family on the passing of a family man and all the other roles Douglas had in life. I think of what his name in the Celtic tradition meant: "Douglas" - "A dweller by a dark stream." It is by the dark streams of life that we can see the ribbons of sun rays reflected helping us to find meaning in all things both joyful and tragic. As Bruce Cockburn sang from his song of the same title as the meaning of Douglas' name:

I am so sorry for the passing of Mr Barrett. I read the obituary and it was so touching and interesting. He had so many incredible achievements throughout his life! I will always remember his wonderful sense of humour and his love of music. When I came over to the house as a teenager he always had the music blaring from his den downstairs!
