Obituary of Doreen May Hughes

HUGHES- Doreen May (nee Peterson) passed away at Middlesex Terrace, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the age of 88.  Doreen is survived by her husband Doug; by her children Laurie Locke and Tom (Colleen) Hughes; by her grandchildren Sarah (Pete) Groeneweg, Adam Locke, and Michael and Megan Hughes; and by her great grandchildren Jack and Owen Groeneweg.  The youngest of four siblings, she is predeceased by her sisters Eleanor Van Zandt, Hilda Hulcoop, and Marilyn Ongai.  Doreen was born in Toronto and worked as a teacher for the Toronto District School Board until she and Doug moved to Sudbury when Doug started his teaching career.  Fifty-four years later, they moved to St. Thomas to be close to their family.  A celebration of Doreen’s life will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.  If desired, donations in memory of Doreen can be made to the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners.  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
