Obituary of Garry Lynn Begg

BEGG – Garry Lynn of St Thomas passed away peacefully at the St Thomas-Elgin General Hospital with his family at his side on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the age of 82.  Beloved husband of Mary M Begg (nee. Clarke).  Garry is survived by his children Jodie Begg of St Thomas and Shane Begg of London; siblings Franklin (Marilyn) Begg and Judy (Stan) Linkovich; many nieces, nephews, extended family. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Helen (Neave) Begg, sister Shianne and her husband Russell Ouimette, sister in law Eleanor and her husband Jerry McGrenere.  Garry was a big joker.  His sarcasm would crack him up and embarrass his kids.  You could find him mornings at Tim’s sitting with his buddies drinking his coffee.  He loved his family unconditionally.  Garry spent the last few years of his life ensuring his beloved wife Mary of 62 years was safe and happy as she begun to show signs of dementia.  It broke him to have to give up her care to the professionals when he was just too weak to continue her care.   He was there to give a helping hand to anyone who needed it.  His nieces and nephews would reach out to Uncle Garry when they needed an advocate.  He retired from the CSX Railroad in 2005.  He was passionate and opinionated regarding his Chrysler/Dodges.  He loved his woodworking and could MacGyver anything.  He was quite the handyman!  Garry has left many with a lasting impression of his humour and smile.  He will be greatly missed by many.  Especially his children.  Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.  Words of remembrance will start at 2:00 p.m.  Interment of ashes in South Park Cemetery at a later date.  If desired, donations to Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
