DICKIE – Shirley Marilyn (nee. Gorvett) The family is saddened to announce her passing on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.  She was the devoted wife of Ron Dickie (2022) for 66 years.  The proud mother of their caring children, Dale (Alice), Phil (Kristina), Susan (John), Chris (Tracey) and Ronda (Gord).  Loving grandmother to 13 and great-grandmother to 18 (almost 19).  Her family will fondly remember their Sunday family dinners, her treasured tins of Christmas cookies for each family and her love of the outdoors.  She was born on her Shelley grandparent’s farm in Yarmouth township to Alfred Gorvett (1978) and Edith Gorvett (nee. Shelley) (1996) becoming a little sister to Audre (Wray) Smith.  At age 2, the family moved to St Thomas where she attended Wellington Street School, S.T.C.I & A.V.S.S.  She was the secretary at Goodwin Furniture Store until she started her family.  When all of the children were in school, she started working in the dairy bar of Shaw’s Ice Cream where she remained for 18 years.  Following Ron’s retirement, they spent summers on Manitoulin Island where their family made many great memories.  She was an active member of Union United Church and a lifetime member of the U.C.W.  Arrangements entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St Thomas (519-631-0570).  There will be a private family service.  Interment of ashes at Union United Church Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society if so desired.  Personal online condolences can be made at www.sjfh.ca
