Obituary of Frederick John Herbert

HERBERT - Frederick John “Herby” passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at the age of 81.  He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Sharon Herbert (nee McDonald); by his children Sue Ashton of Port Burwell, Steve Herbert (Teri Dickinson) of St. Thomas, and Scott “Skip” Herbert (Lynn Thomson) of Drumbo; grandchildren Miranda Ashton (Ryan Parker) of Langton, Jordan (Elena) Ashton of North Virginiatown, Kimberly and Carly Herbert of St. Thomas, and Matthew and Braelyn Herbert of St. Thomas; great grandchildren Paislee, Kaylee and Beau; by his siblings Bob (Pat) Herbert of Florida, Jim (Rita) Herbert of St. Thomas, and Ken (Cindy) Herbert of St. Thomas; siblings-in-law Michael McDonald of St. Thomas, Fred (Wendy) McDonald of Aylmer, Gerri Viges (Dan Moore) of St. Thomas, and Tim McDonald of St. Thomas; and by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Predeceased by his parents Alfred and Barbara Herbert, in-laws Harold McDonald and Irene McDonald-Brown and by his sister-in-laws Carol Herbert and Barbara (Harry) Garrod.  Herby worked as a printer at the St. Thomas Times Journal for 33 years, he was a member of the Southern Ontario Thunderbird Club, and enjoyed landscaping for his many clients in the area.  Cremation has taken place.  A celebration of Herby’s life will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570).  Donations made to the St Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation or a charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
