Obituary of Darlene van Pelt
van Pelt- On Thursday, June 27, 2024, our family said farewell to Darlene van Pelt (nee Hill) as she began her heavenly journey, surrounded by her family in her home. She was a proud member of the Oneida Nation of the Thames. She was a loving, caring, person with many friends and family that she cared for deeply and they returned in kind. Darlene is survived by her husband Henk van Pelt; by her children Dorothy (Henry) Haveman, Char (Nate) Lindsay; by her grandchildren Lexie Haveman, Toni Haveman (Brandon Roach), Garrett Haveman, Reese Haveman, Corey (Julia) Southern and their children Charlie and Addie, Cassie Southern, Evan Brisseau (Mackenzie Thorpe), Luke Lindsay, and Gabe Lindsay; by her siblings Bonnie (John) Lang, Connie (Mike) Patriquin, Louise Lochhead, David Hill, Lois Hill, Glen (Michelle) Hill, and Taylor Summers; by her siblings-in-law Max† (Catherine†) Van Pelt, Audrey (George†) Kleinjan, Arend (Alice) Van Pelt, Eva (Paul†) Goud, Sya (Len) Timmermans, Sara (William†) Pennings, Dee (Henry†) Overduin, Hugo (Gigi) Van Pelt, Ben Van Pelt†, Thea (Henry†) Van Dixhoorn, Margaret (Chris) Wood, Lena (Jack) De Kwaadsteniet, and Floyd (Jacqueline) Van Pelt; and by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Irvin Hill, and her brother Irvin “Rick” Hill. Darlene worked as a RPN at the St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital for many years. After her retirement from the hospital, she started Simply Pure Water in St. Thomas. A smudging ceremony will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at 11:00 am at Redemption Bible Chapel 109 Chestnut Street, St. Thomas. Cremation to follow the funeral service.
