Obituary of George Raymond Monteith

MONTEITH - George Raymond Ivan of St. Thomas, Ont. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the age of 95. Beloved husband of the late Doris Monteith (1988). Ray is survived by children Tim (Mary Pat) Monteith, Syd Monteith; daughter Sandra Blair; son-in-law Frank Szasz; grandchildren Chris (Lauren) Monteith, David (Lisa) Monteith, Amy Szasz (Louie), Julie Szasz; great-grandchildren Auden, Elliott, and Connor Monteith; grandchildren Sherri Blair, Cody Blair, Kim Zinger, Andrew Zinger, Matthew Zinger, Kaylee MacArthur, Sarah MacArthur; brother Don (Dorothea) Monteith; sister-in-law Helen Monteith; his good friend Mary Brennan; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by his daughter Ena Jane Szasz, his brothers Ernest (Marjorie) Monteith, Leo Monteith, Bill Monteith, and his sister Aileen (Reginald) Thorpe. Ray was a retired brakeman/conductor having worked for New York Central Railway. Ray and Doris opened their hearts and home for more than 20 years to over 175 foster children, and cared for each as their own. Ray was also a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 7:00 - 9:00pm. The funeral service will take place at St. Thomas Seventh-Day Adventist Church 380 Manor Road on Sunday at 1:00pm. Private Interment in South Park Cemetery. If desired, donations to Maranatha-One Day Church would be appreciated.
