Obituary of R. Wayne McKinnon

McKINNON - Wayne (Ross) McKinnon left this world a better place on Wednesday, June 25th, supported and loved by his family. Cherished forever by his wife and partner Melody, daughter Piper (Terry Gibson) of Welland, son Cory (Stacey) of Ottawa, and two inspirational grandsons Lachlan and Kai McKinnon. Predeceased by his parents Mack and Elsie McKinnon, and infant brother Neil. Survived by his brother Sandy (Carol) McKinnon of Morrisburg, Ontario, sister Eroca Zeviar of Ottawa, brother-in-law Glen (Beverlee) Brown of Bridgewater, N.S. and brother-in-law Rick (Heather) Brown of Appin, and admired nieces and nephews. Wayne was born in Seguin Falls, Ontario, grew up in Sarnia and moved to St. Thomas to operate the Hilltop Motel and Restaurant and later, the Talbot Trail Tea Room. He will be well remembered for his love and respect of people. Who can forget being serenaded by Wayne on guitar whenever someone had a birthday! A dedicated Rotarian, Wayne was very passionately involved in the St. Thomas, Rotary Club - helping with the many fundraising activities - it was hard to pass the Food Trailer without being encouraged by Wayne to stop and have a bite! Wayne was a mentor of the St. Thomas Interact Club, guiding young people to develop leadership and life skills and he was recently presented the “Service Above Self” award by Rotary District 6330, recognizing Wayne’s dedication and inspiration to the youth programs supported by Rotary. We will miss this caring, giving gentleman.
