Obituary of Florus DeJong

DeJong- Florus “Fred” DeJong passed away peacefully at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Monday, March 31, 2014 at the age of 81. Fred is survived by his loving wife Bertha DeJong (nee Pennings) (formerly Pol) of St. Thomas; his children Jennefer (John) Vandervliet of Dunnville, Peter (Adri) DeJong of Welland, James DeJong, Sue (Martin) Devries, and Shelly (John) Wason all of B.C., Art (Pat) Pol of St. Thomas, Janet (Doug) Hepburn of Union, Ben Pol (Ida Corr) of Union, and Nelly Pol of St. Thomas; thirty six grandchildren and thirty six great grandchildren; by his three brothers and three sisters in Holland; and by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents William and Jenneke DeJong, his first wife Suzanne DeJong and by his son Tim DeJong. Fred was retired from State Farm Insurance and was a member at the Free Reformed Church of St. Thomas. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Free Reformed Church 145 St. George Street, St. Thomas on Thursday at 9:30 am. Interment will take place in Wellandport Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Mission Fund at the Free Reformed Church, St. Thomas would be appreciated. Visitation Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 pm.
