Obituary of Norman Doherty

Obituary DOHERTY- Norman Myles of St. Thomas, passed away at home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the age of 75. Norman is survived by his loving wife Brenda Doherty (nee Brant); by his children Alicia (George) Tsakos and their daughters Alexis, Victoria and Lauren, and Stephanie Doherty and her daughter Sarah; by his siblings-in-law; and by his many nieces and nephews. Norman was born in Belleville on February 25, 1944 to the late William and Lillian Doherty. He was an Iron Worker/Welder for over 50 years, retiring with the International Association of Bridge & Iron Workers Local #700. He began his career as an Ironworker in 1965 working on many large construction projects including the Ambassador Bridge, Renaissance Centre, Darlington Nuclear Plant as well as local projects such as Formet Industries and H.B. Beal Secondary School, just to name a few. Working in his trade, his Ironworker Brothers knew him as “Blackie”. Norm loved the outdoors, whether working on a small project in his garage or more fondly, relaxing at the camper by the fire as a long-time seasonal camper at Dalewood Conservation Area in St. Thomas. Norman loved a road trip – didn’t matter where, he was up to drive. He traveled West to visit friends in Saskatchewan, South to have Thanksgiving dinner with old pals, and East to visit family. He was the best co-pilot with Stephanie on a long haul to the Southern USA and had the opportunity to see the sights from the big rig! He enjoyed country music and his favourite song was “Farewell Party”. Norm will be missed by all his girls – his loving wife, daughters, and beautiful grand-girls. Farewell Norm, until we meet again. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11:00 am. A private Interment will take place in Riverview Cemetery, Shannonville. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
