Obituary of Clifford James Smith
SMITH - Clifford James (Jim) Smith, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in his 63rd year. Jim is survived by his wife and soul mate Lorraine Smith (nee Sawyer) of St. Thomas; his children Daryl (Michelle) Smith of Aylmer, Angela (Ken) Ferguson of Port Dover, Stacey (Chad) Law of Strathroy, Sherene (Jeff) Casey of St. Thomas, Sean Lynch of St. Thomas, and Sarah Lynch (Nick Baitz) of Port Stanley; his brothers Robert (Mel) Smith of Iona Station, John (Shelly) Smith of Talbotville, and Allan (Lena) Smith of St. Thomas; brothers-in-law Douglas (Mary) Sawyer of Sparta, Donald (Penny) Sawyer of Port Stanley, and Roy (Brenda) Sawyer of Union. Jim will also be missed by his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Clifford and Violet Smith and by his brother Wilfred Smith. Jim worked for over 20 years at The St. Thomas-Elgin Co-op and in 1991 joined DBC Smart Software Inc. where he spent the remainder of his career. He enjoyed playing his guitar and banjo, coaching and playing baseball and was a lifetime member of the Fingal Optimist Club. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 7:00 - 9:00pm. A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00am. A private interment of ashes will take place at the Aylmer Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario or STEGH Palliative Care (D Unit) would be appreciated.
