Obituary of Elaine McGregor-Morris

Obituary McGREGOR-MORRIS- Margaret Elaine passed away with courage and dignity, on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Elaine is survived by her husband David Morris; by her children Jeffrey (Nancy) Stevenson of Canfield, Paul Morris of Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico, Jayne (David) Cooper of London, and Kim Morris of Toronto; by her grandchildren Jordan and Sara Stevenson, Tyler Edwards, Keegan, Zoë and River Morris, and Jeffrey and May Cooper; by her brother Donald McGregor; and by many nieces and nephews. Elaine began her career in education, teaching at Wellington Street School and later moving into the position of Coordinator of the Arts for the Elgin County Board of Education. She was a pillar of our community, being involved at Yarmouth Centre United Church with Sunday School, Young Peoples, and the choir; the Women’s Place Emergency Shelter; Past Chair of the Art Gallery Board, the YWCA, the Elgin-St. Thomas United Way (local and regional level); and Community Futures Development Corporation. Elaine was awarded Woman of Distinction by the YWCA. She was a Founding Member of the Elgin-St. Thomas Community Foundation and current Chair of the Board, a long-time member of the St. Thomas Curling Club and a volunteer for many other organizations. A Celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at the CASO Station 750 Talbot St, St. Thomas on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 pm. A special tribute to Elaine will begin at 3:30 pm. A private interment of ashes will be held in the Aylmer Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). The McGregor Morris Fund (A family fund dedicated to supporting Art in Public Places) was created by Elaine and David through the Elgin-St. Thomas Community Foundation. In lieu of flowers, donations to their fund, in memory of Elaine, would be greatly appreciated.
