Obituary of Helen Maude Carter

CARTER - Helen Maude (nee Perry) Passed away peacefully after a brief illness in Victoria Hospital, London on Saturday July 29, 2017 at age 96. Beloved mother of Marney Carter of London, Tom (Anne) Carter of Portland and Carl (Janice) Carter of Parry Sound. Helen will be missed by grandchildren Christopher (Kathy), Michael (Laura), Jessica (Steve), Jennifer (Doug), Mitchell (Kristen), Graham, Blair and she was a great-grandmother of 8 and a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her son Kevin (2015), sister Shirley Ewanick (2012) and parents Irving and Edith Perry. Lovingly remembered by niece, Connie (Blyde) of Port Stanley. Helen was born in Grand Prairie, Alberta, moving to SW Ontario at a young age. She was a graduate of University of Western Ontario (1942) and later, Teacher’s College. Upon retirement after 19 years teaching typing and shorthand at Arthur Voaden Secondary School and Parkside Collegiate Institute St. Thomas, she enjoyed travelling, spending time with family and friends, gardening on the farm, volunteering, and playing cards. Helen was a long time member of Littlewood Church, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) and the Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTO). Helen had a wonderful sense of humour, loved to laugh and was an avid emailer of jokes. With a warm demeanour, positive outlook and a generous nature she easily made lasting friends and will be missed by many. Family and friends are invited to the SHAWN JACKSON FUNERAL HOME, 31 Elgin St, St Thomas (519-631-0570) for visitation on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. - 12 noon followed by a service in the chapel. A private interment at Elmdale Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christian Blind Mission or charity of your choice. The family would like to thank London Health Sciences Centre (Victoria Campus) and Ashwood Manor staff for their care and compassion.
