To: Susan and your family
Tony and I are so sorry to hear about Roger’s passing. I have known Roger since Grade 4 at Victory Memorial all the way through high school to Western. He was always an exceptional student, and he was an excellent dentist. Tony had some bad experiences with former dentists, and Roger calmly treated him while talking about curling. Roger was a friend, an employer, a teacher and an all round good guy. He gave me my first job right out of high school as a dental assistant and for that I am forever grateful. I will miss his smile,his whit, his sense of humour and all the talks we used to have when i was there for an appointment.
Susan and family ...I'm sure there are no words that will ease your sorrow, but know Roger touched thousands of lives and those people are praying for your family now. To Jamie and all the members of Roger’s family. I was so sad to learn of Roger’s passing. Throughout my career, I would run into Roger at a lecture or golf tournament and it was always so helpful and reassuring to me to be able to chat with him for a bit. He always gave good advice and always had the best interests of his patients first and foremost. He was a class act, an inspiration to his profession and I will miss him greatly. My only complaint as a dentist is that Roger usually waited until he had my mouth full of utensils before asking his questions about curling and golf. Susan and Family, my brother Allan was best friends with Roger while growing up in Ingersoll. I was best friends with Rogers's brother Jamie. I too remember the countless hours on the Pettit's outdoor rink. When I moved to St Thomas I actually enjoyed going the the dentist to see Roger and relive memories of our childhood. The memory that stands out for me about Roger is him leading the Ingersoll District Collegiate Trumpet Band in their red tunics playing their theme song "Oh When the Saints Come Marching In". How appropriate is that!

Over 40 years ago i met this wonderful dentist. I had a bad toothache on the weekend and went to the hospital in St Thomas to get some relief. I was from out of town but Dr Pettit ask me to meet him at his office that afternoon. I did and he pulled my tooth as it was bare nerve showing and he said i would get no relief. I was a young mother with 2 little kids and it was mothers day. I asked him how much i owed him and he said 10 dollars and Happy Mothers Day. He was just a wonderful man. To Rogers family. I want to send my condolences over the loss of such a wonderful man and to Thank you for sharing this wonderful man and dentist with all. He was truly my hero that day and i will never forget this. RIP DR PETTIT you are truly an angel as you were on earth.

I was privileged to share and coordinate treatment plans for patients under Roger's supervision. He cared for each and every one of his patients and his patients loved him. As little kids growing up in Ingersoll Roger was my best friend. We passed endless days playing our childhood games, learning to ride our bikes and I learned to skate on the backyard rink his mother made. I spent hours one summer playing Monopoly with him when he had been confined to bed following a bout of Rheumatic Fever. We were the "Boys of Duke St" and along with Phillip Flescher, Kurt Bowman, Al Hobbs, and, the Arne brothers we , in the words of Bob Dylan, "thought we could live forever in fun". It was a quieter and, in many ways, a better time. Eventually our paths split, we went our separate ways, and lost touch as childhood friends often do but, I treasure the memories. Goodbye old friend.

Thinking of Roger’s family. Dr Pettit had been my dentist since I was about 8 years old. He always made you feel special and seemed interested in what was happening in your life. I babysat for him and Susan for a short while before I started university. He was so proud of each of his children and later grandchildren. Thinking of and praying for each of his family.
