Our deepest sympathy to the whole family. Don was the best neighbour anyone could ever hope to have. He was one of the most thoughtful, kind and intelligent men we ever knew. As a young child, I remember saying "happy fathers day" to him. He chuckled. But he really was sort of like a second dad, he was always was welcoming and friendly . And so tactful. I remember when my mother made her old country soup with meatballs (made of chopped liver) and she really wanted Don to try it. (talk about a good sport). He took a taste, smiled and said, nicely " it's different" . For many years, we went for evening walks for exercise. During these walks we always looked forward to his take on so many things .. politics, the economy, etc. It's those wonderful memories of Don that we will always cherish. Marlene and Katie

Dear members of the Graham family:
Thank you for your telephone call yesterday informing me of the passing of Don. My condolences to you at this time of loss. I regret that I can not be with you at either visitation because I have to go to Barrie tomorrow. Memories flood into my mind of my many associations with Don at checker gatherings. There used to be a dozen or more who gathered. When it got down to just 4 of us we would try to meet every 3 weeks from October until April. What great times they were !! Our association together was far more important than playing checkers. Don was always so calm, soft spoken, and friendly. Sometimes in a difficult checker position he would mutter under his breath but never got upset except, perhaps, with himself. He has reached the King Row.
Dear brother thou art gone before; Thy trials here on earth are o'er;
Freed from sorrow, freed from pain; Farewell! Until we meet again.
And meet again we shall, dear checker friend. Ken Shoesmith, Dundas, Ontario.

I just want to say what a nice man Don was. We had a few chats at the front counter here at Metcalfe when he was on his way out to feed the birds. I will miss his cheery smile. Thinking of your family at this sad time.

We send our condolences to the Graham Family, who were such good neighbours and friends when our children were growing up. We hope Don was still able to play checkers in his later years.
We are in Florida but will be thinking of all of you in your time of grief.
Sincere Sympathy
Bob & Alice
