Obituary of Maureen Avery

AVERY- Maureen Elizabeth (nee McGuire) of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Saturday, April 20, 2024 in her 90th year.  Beloved wife of the late Elmer Avery (2015).  She will be missed by her son Edward (Christine) Avery and their children Teagan and Heath of England; by her sisters-in-law Nancy (late Ted) McGuire of Tillsonburg and Carolyn (Terry) Brophy of Bayfield; by her nieces Sharris (Art) Richards of London, Helen (Robert) Dallaire of Kelowna, BC, and Suzanne Montgomery of England; by her goddaughter Susan Smith of London; and by her many friends.  Maureen retired as a telephonist starting her career in England and later for Bell Canada.  She was very active in her community, volunteering with the St. Thomas Little Theater Guild, Scouts, the STEGH-Auxiliary where she also served as Past President, and enjoyed sharing her musical talent singing with the Sweet Adelines.    Maureen was a long-time member of St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Parish where she was involved with the church choir and C.W.L..  Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 4:00 pm– 8:00 pm.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anne’s Parish 20 Morrison Drive, St. Thomas on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 10:00 am.  Cremation to follow.  Interment in Holy Angels Cemetery on a later date.  If desired, donations to STEGH-Foundation would be appreciated.  Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
